Daily Arena Guide

FlipSight Daily Arena is an online event held every day. For a set time you keep playing while opponents are assigned automatically, competing on points for rankings and medals.

Schedule and game settings

Arenas run every day and alternate between STD and XOT openings. The clock is 1, 2, 3 or 5 minutes, and differs from the previous Arena. An Arena lasts 30 minutes with a 1-minute clock, 40 with 2 minutes, 50 with 3 minutes and 60 with 5 minutes. Check the Arena card or history for the schedule and settings.

Joining

You can join a published Arena before it starts. It starts on time regardless of the number of entrants. You can also join after the start, until the Arena ends. Before the start, Leave cancels your entry.

Pausing and joining again

Pause stops new game pairings. Your points and game record stay. Select Join to wait for an opponent again. A game already in progress and its clocks keep running.

You can also pause from the game result dialog.

When you can be paired

You can be paired while FlipSight is open. A desktop browser can still pair you after you switch windows or tabs. The mobile app does not pair you while it is in the background, and you are not paired while playing another person.

While waiting, you can spectate, play a bot or solve puzzles, including Sprint. When paired, you switch to the Arena game automatically. Any bot game or puzzle in progress is voided, with no effect on rating or record.

How pairing works

Waiting players are paired automatically. Similar ratings are preferred just after the start; later, players close in the standings are preferred. Consecutive games against the same opponent are avoided and colors are balanced. To keep waits short, you may not face every participant.

Scoring

A winning streak earns 2 points for its first win, 3 for its second and 4 for every win from the third onward. A draw earns 1 point and a loss 0; either ends the streak. Each game also affects your online rating, separately from Arena points.

Finishing

No new games are paired once the time left is less than twice the clock. Games paired before the end count even if they finish later. If no game is completed, the Arena ends without standings.

Standings and medals

More points mean a higher place. Ties are broken by performance rating, then wins, longest winning streak and average opponent rating. Performance rating uses the opponent ratings and results from this Arena. The top three receive gold, silver and bronze medals.

Medal tiebreaks

Exactly two players tied on points across a medal boundary play a tiebreak after the Arena ends. This applies to 1st/2nd, 2nd/3rd and 3rd/4th. A drawn game is replayed with colors switched until there is a winner.

With three or more players tied, the standings criteria apply without a tiebreak. Tiebreak games affect online rating and record, but not Arena points.

Pausing and medal tiebreaks

If the Arena ends while you are paused, you cannot play a medal tiebreak. When exactly two players tie across a medal boundary and only one is paused, the active player ranks higher. If both are paused, the standings criteria apply. Select Join before the Arena ends to become eligible again.
